ImgTxt is a free, private, browser-based OCR tool that extracts text from images instantly โ without uploading anything to a server.
Your images never leave your device. All OCR processing happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly.
No upload waiting time. Processing starts the moment you select your image and completes in seconds.
Powered by Tesseract OCR with support for English, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Thai, Hindi, and many more.
No registration, no daily limits, no watermarks. ImgTxt is free to use as often as you need.
ImgTxt is built on Tesseract.js โ a WebAssembly port of the open-source Tesseract OCR engine, originally developed at HP and maintained by Google. Tesseract is one of the most accurate open-source OCR engines available, used by researchers, developers, and enterprises worldwide.
When you upload an image, Tesseract.js loads the language model for your selected language (cached in your browser after the first use) and analyzes the image pixel by pixel, identifying characters, words, and lines. The recognized text is returned directly in your browser โ no data ever leaves your device.
Most online OCR tools require you to create an account, impose daily limits, add watermarks, or upload your files to remote servers where they may be stored or processed by third parties. We believe extracting text from an image should be as simple and private as using a calculator โ instant, local, and free.
ImgTxt was designed to work well on both desktop and mobile, support a wide range of languages out of the box, and require zero setup from the user.
ImgTxt is useful for anyone who needs to extract text from images: students digitizing notes and textbooks, professionals converting scanned documents, travelers extracting text from signs and menus to translate, developers capturing error messages from screenshots, and anyone who has ever needed to retype text from a photo.
